01Services

Two disciplines. One finished part. — Sandblasting and powder coating for metal parts in Novi Iskar, Sofia

Illustrative simulation: sandblasted steel, and the same steel after powder coating.

Preparation and coating you can rely on.

A good coating starts with clean metal. That is why we do both: we prepare the surface and powder coat it, in our workshop in Novi Iskar.

Sandblasting

Abrasive blasting removes rust, mill scale and old paint and leaves an evenly roughened, matt surface that the coating bonds to well.

  • Rust and mill scale removal
  • Stripping old paint
  • Preparation before coating

Powder coating

Dry powder is applied electrostatically and cured in an oven. It forms a dense, even film that protects the metal and gives it its colour and finish.

  • Steel, aluminium and galvanised sheet
  • RAL and special colours
  • Matt, gloss, textured and shagreen
  • Parts weighing up to 500 kg

Preparation to suit the part

  • Old paint removal

When an item has been painted before, the old coating is removed before the new one goes on.

  • Surface preparation of metal

Not every part goes through every stage. We agree the right preparation for its material and condition.

02Process

From raw metal to finished part. — How it works: from sandblasting and surface preparation to powder coating

Follow how the surface of the metal changes. Not every item goes through every stage: preparation depends on its condition.

  1. Sandblasting and preparation

Depending on its condition, the part is cleaned of rust, mill scale, old paint and contamination. Sandblasting leaves an evenly roughened surface that the powder bonds to well.

In your enquiry, say whether the item is new, painted or rusty. Preparation depends on it.

  2. Applying the powder

The powder is applied with an electrostatic gun. The charged particles are drawn to the grounded part and settle evenly on its surface. Inside corners and recesses need extra care.

If any areas must stay uncoated, such as threads, holes or contact faces, mark them in advance.

  3. Curing

In the oven the powder melts, flows and hardens into a continuous film. That is why powder coating is for metal, not for wood or plastic.

Materials that can’t take high temperatures are not suitable for powder coating.

  4. Cooling and inspection

After curing, the part cools and the coating is checked for evenness and missed spots.

If you have requirements for the final look, such as a RAL colour, gloss level or texture, tell us at the start.

This describes the typical sequence. We agree the exact steps for your item when you get in touch.

03Applications

Built for use. Finished with care. — Powder coating and preparation for railings, fences, steel structures, wheels and roll bars

Most of our work is railings, fences and steel structures. We also coat wheels and roll bars for 4x4s. We work for private customers and companies, and single items are welcome.

The photos are from the Tukan 25 workshop. The drawings show typical kinds of items, not specific jobs.

05Finishes

One material. Different character. — RAL colour and finish of the powder coat

The finish decides how the coating reflects light. Compare all four on an illustrative sample.

07FAQ

Frequently asked questions — What to know about sandblasting and powder coating

Short answers to the questions that usually come up before an order. For a specific item, just ask us directly.

Can’t find an answer? Call +359 898 877 979

What is powder coating?

Powder coating is a way of coating metal with dry powder instead of liquid paint. The powder is applied electrostatically and then cured in an oven, where it melts and forms a dense, even film.

What is sandblasting, and when is it needed?

Sandblasting is abrasive blasting: a pressurised stream of abrasive removes rust, mill scale and old paint from the metal. The surface becomes clean and slightly rough, and the powder coating bonds to it better.

Whether your item needs sandblasting depends on its condition. Mention it in your enquiry.

Which materials do you work with?

We work with steel, aluminium and galvanised sheet. Each material needs suitable preparation, and for galvanised surfaces we agree the preparation and coating compatibility for the specific item.

Wood, MDF and most plastics are not suitable for powder coating, because they can’t withstand curing.

How large a part can you take?

We process parts weighing up to 500 kg. Whether a specific part is suitable also depends on its dimensions and shape, so please send a photo and approximate dimensions.

Do you coat wheels?

Yes. Wheels are powder coated in the RAL colour and finish you choose. Before we start we assess each wheel’s condition and the preparation it needs, so please send a photo.

How long does it take?

The typical lead time is about 5 working days. For urgent orders we discuss the options individually, depending on our current workload and the item itself.

How is the price worked out?

Every item is different, so we don’t use a general price list. The price depends on the dimensions and area, the preparation needed, the type and complexity of the work and the quantity. For larger orders we offer individual terms.

What do you need to give me a quote?

The most useful things are a photo or drawing, approximate dimensions and weight, the number of parts, the material, its condition and the colour you want. Describe them in the enquiry form and email us the photo or drawing. You can also call us.

Can a rusty or previously painted part be coated?

Yes, after suitable preparation. Powder coating isn’t applied over rust or old paint: the surface is cleaned first, for example by sandblasting or stripping the old paint.

Mention the item’s condition in your enquiry so we can agree the preparation.

Which colours and finishes do you offer?

We work with RAL colours and special colours, in matt, gloss, textured and fine-texture (shagreen) finishes. Give the RAL number and the finish, for example “RAL 9005 matt”. If you’re not sure, we’ll help you choose; the exact shade is agreed when you get in touch.

Is the coating suitable for outdoor use?

For outdoor items, powders made for exterior use are applied, most often polyester-based. How long the coating lasts depends on the whole system: the preparation of the metal, the type of powder, the film thickness and the conditions the item is exposed to.

Tell us whether the item will be outdoors so we can suggest the right solution.

Where are you, and when can I bring an item?

Our workshop is in Novi Iskar, Gnilyane quarter, Latinka St., in the yard of the former TKZS (cooperative farm), Sofia. Opening hours are 09:00–18:00. Please call ahead to arrange when to bring the item.

Do you work with customers outside Sofia?

Yes. We work with private customers and companies from Sofia and other cities in Bulgaria. Items are received at our workshop in Novi Iskar.
